Destination Jøa

Jøa is known as the realm of the author Olav Duun, and the island’s fairytale landscape was the main inspiration for his work. You can see Olav Duun’s childhood home at Dun. ”Siglurd” is a traditional boat with a square sail and top sail, built using a unique method developed from the Viking ships. “Siglurd” and the restored fishing boat MS ”Straumingen” are based in Brakstad harbour, where you will also find a pub.

Biking on Jøa
Traffic is light on Jøa, which makes the island ideal for cycling. The terrain is varied and there are alternative routes which have an ocean view or pass through marshlands. Cycling maps and sign-posted routes. Check here for more info.

Rakkavika fishing place and walking trail
Family-friendly fishing and outdoor area with picnic areas suitable for wheelchair users in Rakkavika, Jøa. Views of the Folla sea.
