Vegaøyan World Heritage area

Visit the World Heritage exhibition in Nes

You can explore Vega’s heritage in many ways: In the fishing harbour in Nes you can visit E-huset, a museum with a World Heritage exhibition documenting the importance of the eider duck in the island’s history. In the harbour, next to Vegabue Kafé, you will find an exhibition with a shop about the remote island of Lånan. In Lånan you can stay with the bird-keepers.

Cruise in the archipelago

In the summer months there are cruises to the villages in the archipelago. You can go on boat trips to the small islands of Lånan, Skjærvær, Hysvær, Bremstein or Skogsholmen in the World Heritage area. A local guide will talk about life and work on the islands.

    Om sommeren kan man på kaia på Nes få med seg en verdensarvutstilling som består av kart og informasjon om verdensarven og øyene som kan besøkes med cruisebåten. Utstillingen er samlokalisert med butikken Lille Lånan.

    Discover the remote island of Lånan – the largest egg and eiderdown farm in Helgeland. Scheduled boat trips in the summer season. In 2004 Lånan was included in UNESCO’s prestigious list of World Heritage sites.

  • Boat trips from Nes on Vega to Lånan

    During the summer season, there are regularly scheduled boat trips out to Lånan. On Lånan you will be greeted by the bird wardens who take you along on a historical walking tour in the realm of the Elder Duck. The trip concludes with a meal consisting of “Lånan Burgers”, coffee and cake at the “Låven” barn where there is a photo exhibit and a museum. The total duration of the trip is about 4 hours.

    E-huset Museum

    At E-huset Museum you will learn about the tradition of keeping eider ducks for down production. There are photo exhibitions and a country store with local handicraft. E-huset Museum is located in the fishing harbour in Nes, where you will also find converted fisherman’s cottages, a café and the World Heritage exhibition.
