Attractions along Kystriksveien

A journey along Kystriksveien consist of both natural and cultural attractions. The Torghatten Mountain - with the impressive hole through it - is only a 20 minute walk from where you park the car. The mountain range "De Syv Søstre" (The Seven Sisters), the Svartisen glacier, or the islands Lovund and Træna are other examples of great natural attractions along the Kystriksveien.

The Vega Archipelago

The island of Vega and its surrounding islands were awarded UNESCO World Heritage status in 2004. The islands bear testimony to a distinctive frugal way of life based on fishing and the harvesting of the down of eider ducks. There are fishing villages, quays, warehouses, eider-houses (built for eider ducks to nest in), farming landscapes, lighthouses and beacons for you to visit on the Vega islands.

  • Rock City Namsos

    Rock City Namsos is a rock museum with interactive stations where you can listen, learn and be active. The museum also tells the story of the harbour town Namsos. About the young boys who went off at sea and came back with new inspiration.

  • Torghatten mountain walk

    It's only a 20 minute walk up to coastal Norway's most famous landmark. The 160 m long, 35 m high and 15 m wide hole through the Torghatten mountain is impressive !

  • Svartisen - Enga glacier

    Svartisen is Norways second to highest glacier and has an area of 370 squarekilometers. From the coastal road Kystriksveien (rv17) you may visit Svartisen by taking the boat from Holand across the HolandFjord (Just by the tourist office in Meløy).

    Vegaøyan World Heritage area

    Welcome to the realm of the eider duck! For over 1,000 years the residents of the islands of Vega have built nests and tended the birds. Once the ducks leave their nests the bird-keepers harvest the soft eiderdown and make the world’s best duvets. This unique eiderdown production provides the livelihood for the islands’ communities and was the reason that Vega was awarded World Heritage status by UNESCO in 2004.

  • The Iron-Age farm at Tranås

    At Tranås you will find traces after a 50 meter longpole-house and several burial mounds. You can seesigns of human activity since the birth of Christ.
